GDM from obsolete machines

Coincidentally, these days I released "beta forever 0.85" of manual About recycling had to do in school, wrote a few steps that I hope will be helpful to someone. Excerpt from page 146:

Sometimes we have the other complete desktop Linux in our Linux. The trick goes through

Ask the session manager (GDM / KDM / XDM, etc) on the server machine, allowing us to pass remotely. In Ubuntu / Debian, the default session handler in GDM.
  1. on the client machine where we can start the connection, create an instance of X to point to the servant.
  2. There are many ways to do that, and sometimes varies slightly according to the distro we use. Just write XDMCP on Google to find several recipes. In Ubuntu the most simple is:

The computer server create a file / etc / gdm / custom.conf, with the following contents:
  1. # GDM configuration storage
[xdmcp] Enable = true

DisplaysPerHost = 15

[chooser]

[security]

[debug]

Reboot, or if we hurry, we stop the GDM service:

sudo / etc / init.d / gdm stop

This brings us down to the TTY1, and leaves us in text mode. Logueamos us again in text mode, and restart the service:

sudo / etc / init.d / gdm stop

The client computer can be given three situations
    1. That already exists an X in progress. This is called Display: 1.0. If you do not want stop all our work in progress, and we want the desktop switches between local and remote, we go to tty1 by pressing Ctrl + Alt + F1, and from there wrote
    2. sudo X: 2.0-query

ipDelServidor This will open a welcome on the remote server, similar to Windows Terminal Server!

A customer who does this is also

      gdmflexiserver

      .

      X
    3. That course does not allow us to "Switcher" to text mode. Some distros have this behavior. In that case, we lower the GDM customer premises, with
    4. sudo / etc / init.d / gdm stop

And then run in text mode where instruction is not necessary to declare the display to use: is default: 1.0

      sudo X-query

      ipDelServidor

    5. This is my favorite: the client computer is so outdated, they can hardly lift a graphics mode. It happens with multiple machines at a state school in which I am a manager in the morning shift. The procedure is very simple: at the station obsolete, try one of the tricks above. If I have success, installed in any of the scripts that start in / etc / init.d gdmflexiserver the call or the call to sudo X-query, and the season starts on the servant. In limited cases, the obsolete install any Linux distro for very, very old machines, as PuppyLinux, Damm Small Linux, or Linux Deli, just to hack the / etc / init.d, / etc / rc.local, and make the call to the server from there.
    6. recycled machine, and without spending a peso!

What if the computer is so old it does not even have hard drive? In that case install LTSP, or some of its variants: Thinstation, or TCOS. This so I have some 486 and Pentium 1 fully usable.

Goodbye everybody!

Locks From Casehard Locks

The Pickaxe of u $ s 10

Yes! at 1 week was the legendary Ruby pickaxe, and using the promotion of u $ s 10 in pragprog.com I left most expensive shipping, u $ s 14, and if I had known about this thing called Black Friday and the% 40 off, I brought The Rspec Book for $ s 30 building shipping.
Y weno, everything can not be. At least in terms of testing, I'll have to settle for the many screencasts around Out There.

Shaving Flesh Eating Disease

Last night I had a dream and you were me and the elves
wind whispering my ear

You kiss my lips and my love
your coat sprinkled with stars

your silence and mine ... And a rumor

words and I want to sleep with a thousand ties tied

your love and mine ...

The
elves are mischievous spirits, according to popular tradition, live in some houses, where they cause noise and disturbance. It is said that if a human watched the dance of the elves , came to discover that, although it seems that a few hours had passed in the real world would have gone many years.

The elves are a few little men who stand on a rock and dance hat in hand, making an unbearable noise, all walkers to listen to dance the elves must commend his soul to God and move very fast before I enduende .. .
versions about these characters are many, say that these people live in the streams, particularly those whose waters are rushing waters cascade, these places are favorite elves wear hats and dress outlandishly huge and sometimes shoes sandals and other shoes like those circus clowns, their clothing is in agreement with the days of the week, but usually use bright colors, hours meetings are preferred to noon and six in the afternoon.
To the south eastern province of Carchi in Ecuador, there is a place known as goblins, which has been feared for a long time, opening a road goes there way through cliffs to achieve true path to communicate to people with the rest of the country.

Its name comes from a tradition that has been lost, says that when Eve was approaching, including streams and Chillaguagua Chulumhuasi, now known as Elves, used to be an unusual sight: a two o'clock, leaving a lots of little men, the smallest of all playing a drum produced a loud noise, whose sound dancing elves, making rare steps and movements, ponchos and pulled the hair, threw their hats, while consuming a liquid in bottles larger than their own bodies, later approached the outpouring of water and climbed laboriously by a simple rope, then slid sharply over the water falling spectacularly at the foot of the waterfall, making the noise grew and grew, the little men suddenly disappeared, to rise again at six o'clock in the afternoon and repeat the same acts.

Another version is that you can see fairies dancing on the prairies, especially at night and morning fog, allowing the circle to enter the location of the dance, called älvdanser (elf dances) or älvringar ("circle of elves"), but whoever does will become an elder in minutes , without realizing the actual time spent in dance. Urinating in one of these circles cause STDs. Typically, these circles are drawn by a multitude of small mushrooms.
